The Best Snow Blower For the Job

!±8± The Best Snow Blower For the Job

So you've decided to buy a snow shifter but don't know where to start? Here on this site we will help you choose the perfect machine to suit your needs and your wallet. We will explain each type of snow moving machine and bust that jargon. With our summary tables you'll be able to see at a glance the machine that is right for you.

For many years shovelling snow has been an arduous task, back-breaking hard labor and, more often than not, seen as the man's task. Those days are now a thing of the past, with many machines available to move snow. From small electric powered snow throwers such as the Toro 38361 to gasoline fuelled two stage snow blowers, for example, the Poulan PR6R24ES.

When deciding on what type of snow remover to purchase you must first ask yourself a few key questions.

1. What size of area do I need to clear and what kind of surface?
2. If I was to buy electric, do I have a power point I can work from?
3. Do I have a suitable place to store the machine?

Electric Powered Snow Shovels, Throwers & Blowers

The major advantage of an electric machine is the lack of maintenance required. No gas to mess about with, no oil changes, no spark plugs to clean and replace. You basically plug in and go. Electric machines are comparatively quiet and come in a variety and sizes relative to their recommended workloads. One thing that is essential is to buy with any electric snow mover is a decent grade, brightly colored extension cord suitable for low temperatures. Because of the power cable there is a distance issue so you must take this into consideration when decided on the type of snow remover to purchase. Also consider any obstacles in your garden that you may need to run your cable round. The basic model is a lightweight machine designed for occasional use or light snowfall, up to approximately 6 inches deep. Basically, they pick the snow up with a rotary blade and shoot it straight ahead to a distance of 20 feet. A good example is the Snow Joe Plus 322P which has a 7.5amp motor, a 12" working width and can tackle up to 4 inches of snow at a time. (With deeper snow it can shave of 4 inches at a time.) Because it is so lightweight at 12 pounds, it is easy to manoeuvre and carry and has a single handle, ergonomically designed to alleviate back strain. Another proven product is the Toro Power Shovel. With the same size motor as the Snow Joe 322 it cuts through snow of a depth of 6 inches, slightly more than the Snow Joe, and for the same price you might find it a better buy. With the accessories included it can be converted to a power broom for use in the garden all year round.

These types of machines are recommended for paths, patios and decking. Because they are so lightweight, they are ideal for steps too. These basic machines retail at about 0.

The next model up from the basic snow blower is the snow thrower. This is a machine that runs a two-stage process of picking up the snow and blowing it out at a controllable angle. These machines run a 15 amp motor for extra power, have a wider working width of around 18 inches and can clear a depth of 12 inches. A perfect example is the Toro 38381 which retails at approximately 9. It weighs in at approximately 26 pounds with large 4inch wheels for easy manoeuvrability. It can deal with all types of snow and throws it about 30 feet in the direction of your choice.

Electric Advantages

Ideal for small areas / light duty Compact, easy to store Low maintenance Cheaper Lightweight Environmentally friendly

Electric Disadvantages

Not suitable for deep snow Cable may inhibit distance Not ideal in a breeze Basic models cannot control direction of snow throwing Not good for wet snow

Gas fuelled Snow Blowers

These are usually big heavy duty machines with a two-stage process. This works by the auger (spiral shaped rotating shaft) lifting up the snow from the ground and throwing it against a rotating impeller (rotor blade). The impeller then forces the snow up the discharge chute and out. On most machines this chute is moveable to control which direction and how far you want to throw your snow. To buy one of these machines you have to be serious about wanting to clear snow. An investment of between 0 and 00 is required for the actual machine then you've to add the cost of gas, oil and annual maintenance, replacement spark plugs etc to decide whether you actually need a big machine or could manage with one of the larger electric snow blower such as the Toro 38381 18-Inch 15 Amp Electric 1800 Power Curve Snow Thrower.

If you suffer with heavy snowfall, have a large area to clear and an electric model won't do. Read on...

Much larger than their electric counterpart, the gas fuelled snow blower's average working width is doubled and has an intake height of up 23 inches. Perfect if you need to do some serious snow clearing. The Poulan Pro PR6R24ES is an extreme machine and perfect example of a gas snow blower. It has a 205cc engine, weighs 265 pounds and is extremely heavy duty. Available for around 0, you need to be a serious snow clearer to want to purchase this model though if you do you won't be disappointed. However, it is non-CARB compliant so not available in California. For those Californians who wish to buy a snow blower the Powerland PDST24 is CARB compliant. As with many gas fuelled snow- blowers it has self propelled wheels for easy manoeuvrability and works great in all areas and all types of snow. It has an electric starter for those cold mornings. With a retail price of about 0 it has a great reputation for being reliable and easy to use.

Gas Advantages

Ideal for Deep and / or wet snow Can cover any area, not held by cable Heavy Duty Powerful

Gas Disadvantages

Maintenance & added cost of fuel and parts Will leave thin trace of snow because it doesn't clear from surface Heavy Pollution Requires larger storage space

Tips On Buying Your First Chainsaw

!±8± Tips On Buying Your First Chainsaw

Chainsaws have earnt a reputation as the planet's most dangerous power tool; and with good reason. Almost 40,000 people are injured each year using these effective but volatile machines . If you are in the market to purchase your first chainsaw then there are some important points to consider.

Frequent Or Infrequent Use?

One of the biggest mistakes chainsaw newbies make is mis-judging the type of machine they're actually after. Time and time again a first time chainsaw buyer will make the mistake of either buying too powerful or too ineffective a machine. Here's a good point to remember... ask an expert exactly what saw work you require and how frequently you are likely to use a chainsaw. This will give you a good starting point and in most cases, you'll get your answer very quickly.

Safety issues arise when inexperienced cutters attempt to use bigger, more powerful machines without an understanding of the hazards involved. Other than the fact that a big, powerful gas chainsaw can cut through just about any wood presented to it, many users overlook the fact that it takes a strong and usually fit operator to use one of these machines because tiredness creeps in quickly and this usually leads to fatigue and "sloppiness." This is when serious injury can occur.

Gas Vs. Electric Chainsaws

If you intend using your chainsaw on a regular basis then gas is definitely the way to go.The fact that they are mobile is a huge plus and for heavy cutting jobs, then they win hands down over electric saws all the time. Gas models come in a variety of sizes. Stihl and Husqvarna are the leading manufacturers of chainsaws in the world with both having their supporters and detractors. In the final analysis though, both produce some amazing gas chainsaws and choosing on your part will come down to the level of work you intend to perform.

Electric chainsaws certainly have their place, particularly within surburban areas. Why? Well for starters, they are much quieter than their gas cousins and given that cutting jobs within surburban areas are less frequent and lighter duty, then electric saws, in most cases would certainly suffice. Lighter and cheaper to buy and run, an electric chainsaw could be the right fit for your circumstances especially if you have more heavier trimming jobs to perform as opposed to cutting down trees.

What Brands?

It's been my experience that asking for an opinion on what brand you should favor when purchasing a chainsaw is a bit like asking someone who their favorite football team is or their what's their political persuasion. As mentioned earlier, Stihl and Husqvarna are the best known manufacturers and both have their own band of loyal followers. Don't discard other makes though including McCullough, Poulan, Echo and Homelite. It will all come down to what you prefer in the end and your decision may very well be based on which make of machine felt right during the testing period.

Pros and Cons of Using Electric Chainsaws

!±8± Pros and Cons of Using Electric Chainsaws

Electric chainsaws arrived much later than the gasoline-driven models, which were in use for logging since the 1920s. Chainsaws running by means of electric motors gained popularity rapidly among saw-users on account of several advantages. Unlike the gasoline-powered models, electric versions appeared as smaller, lighter, and more easily manageable devices that could be used by laymen for managing their home-gardens. In addition, their maintenance is easier and cheaper than their petrol-driven competitors.

Electric chainsaws also offer the great advantage of being environmental-friendly i.e. free of any toxic emissions. However, the electric type has also some disadvantages or limitations as compared to a gasoline chainsaw.

Advantages of Electric Chainsaws

Using these chainsaws offers a number of advantages over using a gasoline-operated saw. A major advantage of working with an electric vs. gasoline is the reduced risk of kickback-a potentially life-threatening situation occurring when the saw's bar jerks back toward the user after the bar's end hits some obstruction.

The electric type is run by less power than a gasoline saw and hence it has a lower chance of making a kickback. Secondly, using them obviates the trouble of waiting for the engine to cool down (as is the case with a gasoline chainsaw) in order to refuel it. All the user needs to do with an electric is plug it back into the mains. These chainsaws are also much easier to start and they are much less noisy than gasoline chainsaws. This latter quality makes them ideal for use in quiet neighborhoods. Finally, they can be stored more easily than a gasoline-operated saw, which needs to be drained of gas and oil before storing in a vertical position.

Disadvantages of Electric Chainsaws

Working with the electric also has some disadvantages or limitations. The major limitation on using them is that of power. Compared with the more powerful gasoline chainsaws with their two-cycle engines, they are significantly lower on power. Hence, it is not very useful in felling heavy loads and is equipped with a much smaller cutter bar i.e. 8 to 15 inches. Another limitation on the usability of the electric version is the power cord that connects it to the source of electric power. The length of the cord determines the mobility of the saw-operator and it is not feasible for him/her to use it far from the power source or outside home. Finally, these chainsaws are specially designed for maximum safety, which makes it difficult for the user to adjust or oil the chainsaw's parts.

How to sharpen a chain saw

!±8± How to sharpen a chain saw

A chain saw sharp, you need to sharpen often. This is not as difficult as it sounds - all you need are a few simple tools and some practice. There are only two steps to sharpen the saw. First, you need a file or grind their teeth on the chain an edge as sharp as a razor, and secondly, you must adjust the amount of depth that the amount seized control of the wood through each section.

Can you imagine the teeth of the chain, as a small pry bar, eachsmall piece of wood cut every other tooth cutting the opposite side. If each tooth needs a constant supply of wood, with the same angle, and with the same amount of effort or force the saw, then we will have a nice clean cut with a minimum to get by fighting. If you do not pull the chain on both sides and saw through wood like butter, you know you have a sharp saw.

If you learn how to sharpen your saw is a good idea to tightenChain, so there is very little slack. This keeps only the teeth and make it easier to maintain a constant angle when strokes with a round file. You should still be able to move the chain around the bar so comfortable. Remember, the chain before you with a screwdriver.

Look for the transverse angle of the teeth and the upper corner of the cutting edge. Set up your files on duty so that it follows the existing brackets on the teeth. Gently caress the filepoint in the direction of the tooth (away from the body seen). Observe the instructions carefully to make sure you maintain a constant angle. Always count the number of strokes on each tooth - usually 5 or 6 rounds is enough. Then go to the next tooth of the chain and stroke 5 or 6 times with the same angle.

Repeat this pattern for all the teeth that show in the same direction (every other tooth). Then turn the management of files and repeat the process for all the other teeth alternately referred toother side of the saw. Remember, it is very important that each tooth is cut the same amount or the saw will pull to one side when trying to cut.

After several sharpening the teeth are worn down slightly. The indicators should be presented in depth, so it does not exceed the tops of the teeth of the saw. Many people do not go through this step, but if you do not maintain the correct height of the depth of the saw does not cut properly.

All you do is setthe depth of management at the chains on both sides of the teeth and a small notch on the guide you can remove the correct amount of each instrument. Archiving the depth gauge is easier than sharpening their teeth, because you only tried to set the height of the depth, not really sharpen them.

Poulan Chainsaw - an honest review

!±8± Poulan Chainsaw - an honest review

Reviewing chainsaws is not an easy task, because the team gave the following powerful machines.

Poulan chainsaws range have generally been around the mark, as reviews are published, but are part of big names such as Stihl and Husqvarna from their perches is not an easy thing to do.

The plus for the fans is really Poulan Husqvarna and are part of it is, they share the technology. It is to the downside, however, this may have influenced the survey as an important PoulanPlayer in the chainsaw market.

Poulan probably have not done many favors when you look at the reviews on some of their chainsaws scans online. Yes, they make excellent tools for the handyman and craftsman, but they have "dropped the ball a little '" on some of the visa?

Some reviews too hard?

I tend to think, some of the reviews are a bit 'difficult. As mentioned chainsaw marks his band of faithful followers and is a bit 'like cars, until theManufacturer produces something totally unreliable then, it will take much to convince someone to switch brands.

The beauty of Poulan chain saws, are not "pay and arm and a leg" for them. This probably is not given a good description of what a chainsaw can do, but the truth is that they are hard to beat value.

Value products

In a society where the new owners saw more and more every day are born with the boom have come to the party house Poulanmachines developed for novice users looking for a chain saw, lightweight design to fit a lot of units.

A house, as opposed to a professional or semi-pro, not with their machine at regular intervals as a good sense for a chain saw.

Spending between $ 100 - $ 200 for a chainsaw that can handle light to medium activity is great shopping in every language. The only question is then whether one is happy to support back-up if necessary. This is always aMain problem with the purchase of chainsaws and regularly hosts the first time drumming.

Remains to be seen as a Poulan chain saws remain competitive on the market today, but if you are looking for a value that was, then it is a good starting point.
